Facilities

Avondale Grammar School is centrally located in the Tanglin / Dempsey area right in the heart of the embassy district. The School relocated to Phoenix Park from its former Toa Payoh campus in December 2009. The new Phoenix Park campus boasts many improvements including spacious  classrooms with new and improved technology, state of the art multi-purpose hall and in addition a well resourced library and brand new sporting facilities; all offered within a peaceful and secure environment.

Classrooms

All classrooms are spacious, air-conditioned and furnished to create a comfortable and conductive environment for learning and interaction. All Kindergarten to Year 6 classrooms are furnished with Mimio Interactive teaching whiteboards, to complement student’s daily learning sessions.

Activity Areas

Our sporting and playground facilities include an astroturf soccer court, rooftop ball games court, grassed playing area, trampoline, age appropriate play equipment (separate areas for Primary and Preschool), water and sand play area (Preschool), handball courts and hopscotch. In addition the Multi-Purpose Hall is used for Gymnasium classes and other PE activities.

Reading Balcony

The Reading Balcony is used by the Year 3 to Year 6 students under their teacher’s supervision for reading and creative writing exercises.

Drama and Performing Arts

The Multi-Purpose Hall fitted with state of the art lighting and sound equipment is used for drama and performing arts such as public speaking, drama classes, school plays, individual and group musical recitals, pageants, choir, class and school concerts.

Music Room

At Avondale we have a dedicated music room with a piano and a large range of percussion instruments and space for the children to dance and explore rhythm and movement. Each class will visit the music room 2 times per week for their music lesson. Children also have the opportunity to play an instrument (i.e. guitar, piano, flute, saxophone, voice) with a specialist music teacher at a cost to families.

Art Room

The dedicated space and materials of the Art Room provides a rich environment for exploring the world of art and craft. Exploring and creating with art materials helps children become more sensitive to the physical environment; promotes cognitive development and increases their social and emotional development. Young children who are encouraged to engage in expressive art activities also gain a sense of accomplishment and grow toward achieving independence and autonomy.

IT Room

At Avondale we have a dedicated IT room. Each student has their own computer, so they can work independently during lessons. The computer lab has been upgraded with new screens, keyboards and the latest educational software packages. The lab is also used by children for after school programs in such areas as robotics and video editing.

Library

Students are strongly encouraged to develop a love of reading and will visit the library several times each week, either in class, at recess or at lunchtimes. Both the Infant and Primary sections of the school have their own dedicated library stocked with an excellent range of books and reference material suitable for the age group using the library.

Junior Kitchen

Children will follow recipes and integrate their learning across different Key Learning Areas by discussion, using procedures, measuring, mixing and combining substances, visual representation and nutrition. They will learn about kitchen safety and problem solving.

Healthy Canteen

Avondale provides a canteen service to the school for recess and lunch meals. The school provides a varied and healthy range of food options in line with the School’s Healthy Eating program. Daily choices of both hot and cold meals as well as healthy snacks are available.

Campus Security

The safety of Avondale students and staff is of utmost importance and our security protocol has been designed accordingly. Avondale employs 12-hour security guards to secure the entrance/exit and perimeter of the school campus. All teaching staff are issued with a Photo Identity Card that must be worn at all times on the campus. All visitors to the campus must sign in at the front gate with the guards to receive their temporary visitor pass.
