Dear Parents,

Features in this week’s AGS Newsletter 20-05-2012 include some fantastic photos from last weekend’s International Schools’ Athletics Championships, a invitation for budding set designers and builders to join us in producing the set for the Term 3 ELC production and information about the reopening of the back school gate which will be open from this Monday.


The separate PA Newsletter May 20 includes pictures from last weeks Mothers Day Stall, information on the up-coming read-a-thon and an open invitation to their book group and running club.

Dear Parents,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Miss Victoria Picken has been appointed as acting Year Two Lead Teacher. Vicki is a very strong teacher with great knowledge of Avondale Grammar as she started with the School in January 2009. She is a teacher who demonstrates great initiative and care for her students. Please wish her well as she takes on this role.

Features in this week’s Newsletter 13-05-2012 include an invitation for students to enter the Avondale Family Concert, the latest news on this weeks sports fixtures, information on the purchase of new school hats and bags and two articles written by students in years five and six.


The separate Parent Association Newsletter PA Newsletter 13-05-2012 contains updates from the Rainforest Cafe, a request for volunteers for the position of president or vice-president of the Parents Association, an invitation to join the parents Friday running group and a call for volunteers interested in getting creative in the school library.

Avondale House Colours

Next week is an incredibly important week in the life of Avondale Grammar School. Our senior primary students have been busy researching and preparing their presentations for their nominations for their future House ‘names’. A ‘house name’ will be allocated to each of the ‘house colours’ proudly shown here by a group of Avondale students.

Girl Scout Brownies

In Term One of this year, a Girl Scout Brownie ECA was formed for Years 2 and 3 girls. It has been a great success and enjoyed by everyone involved. The program will continue into Terms 3 and 4.

Invitation to Middle Years Information Evening

Dear Parents

Further to the notification in this week’s newsletter, I invite you to an Information Evening about the development of the Avondale Middle Years Program. The evening will be held in the Multi-Purpose Hall on Tuesday 8^th May beginning at approximately 6.00pm. This will be an important opportunity for the school to unpack the exciting plans that we have for the extension through into secondary schooling, and to have any questions that you might have answered by members of staff or Council. All current parents of students in Years 4 – 6 are invited to attend this session. If you have acquaintances with children who might also be interested in joining our secondary school, please do extend an invitation to them to join us.

For Years 5 & 6 parents, we also invite you to hear the Years 5 & 6 students present their ‘pitches’ for the proposed names of their houses. We have invited those students who are able to, to present firstly to junior members of their house on Monday, before presenting to an audience of staff on Tuesday afternoon at 3.30pm and again to their parents at 5.30pm. Feedback will be gathered after each presentation. If Year 4 parents would also like to join this session, you are very welcome to do so.

We will organise a late afternoon tea for the students to sustain them in between presentations.

Please confirm that your child is able to stay for the presentations, and to help us with catering, would you please RSVP to Ms Jessica Lee at jlee@avondalegs.com.sg as to whether you will be able to attend.

I look forward to meeting with you on 8 May.
