Year 4 Class Situation

I would like to inform all Avondale families that the new class teacher on Year 4 for the remainder of 2009 will be Ms Kim Vernon.

Ms Vernon has been at Avondale Grammar School since April of 2008 and has had numerous teaching duties across the school, as well as the responsibility of being our Kindergarten to Year 2 Coordinator.

Ms Vernon will continue in her role as the Kindergarten to Year 2 Co-ordinator, however her primary responsibility will be in the teaching of the Year 4 children.
I would like to warmly welcome Ms Vernon to Year 4 and wish her every success.

I would again like to thank Mrs Rothlin and Ms Yann for doing such a splendid job with the children in their care and wish them the best of luck for the future.

SRC Representatives

Well done to Mitchell Wong, Emilia Norwood, Demi Brand, Jasper Knox, Jacob O’Donoghue-Price, Kimberley Tait and Cash Beasley for the fine jobs they have done as part of the Student Representative Council this term.

I would like to congratulate all seven SRC members for their fantastic work with the varying initiatives they have introduced over the course of the semester and on the fabulous influence they have had with the various charities.  The children continue to visit SAVH for braille, karaoke and most recently a dining in the dark session. They have made a real difference to Avondale and it has been a pleasure working alongside them.

School Reports

The school reports and portfolios for children in Preschool to Year 6 went out to all families this week. If anyone has any questions or issues in relation to their child’s report/portfolio, please don’t hesitate to speak to the School Office and all information will be communicated to relevant teachers before the commencement of Term 3.

School Song

School Song
Below is Avondale Grammar School’s new school song. We have incorporated the school values of Avondale within the song. A big thank you to Mr Ramos and  Ms Coplin for helping with the music and lyrics. The School Song will be sung at assembly each week with the Australian National Anthem being sung at special events.

Avondale a lifelong love of learning
We work together each and every day
From far and wide, stand side by side
To form a path that helps to light our way

At Avondale we call Pro Viribus
To be the best of our ability
Traditions strong, we all belong
Love of life and our community

Learn to build independent minds
To nurture all, to challenge and to guide
Honest and fair, values we share
Sing Avondale Grammar School with pride!
Sing Avondale Grammar School with pride!

I would like to thank the dedicated and hardworking staff at Avondale Grammar School for their tireless efforts, work and support this term. The teachers, along with the children and parents have helped make term 2 a memorable one.

I wish all families well who are finishing up at the end of this term. I would again like to thank Mrs Rothlin and Ms Yann for doing such a splendid job with the children in their care and wish them the best of luck for the future.

I hope all families in the Avondale community have a safe and well deserved break and we look forward to seeing everyone on our return to school in four weeks.

First Hand Charity

Congratulations to all children for their enthusiastic participation in our First Hand charity day this week. The school raised money through children wearing mufti clothes with each child contributing a gold coin donation and the SRC Representatives and Year 5 and 6 leaders also organized a smorgasboard of wonderful activities from face painting to the making of pet rocks to taste testing for everyone to enjoy at lunchtime. We raised  $436 for the children in Cambodia, which was most successful. A big thank you as well to all the Avondale families who brought in the many croc shoes and soft toys- you are going to definitely put smiles on many faces of children sponsored by First Hand. A big thank you also to Ms Hand for helping organise this successful day for Avondale!
