Curriculum - Creative & Practical Arts

Visual Art, Drama, Dance and Music are included in this key learning area.

Art will be included in other key learning areas and will generally relate specifically to the content being studied. It will be used to develop manipulative skills in the use of implements, as well as developing their creativity when expressing themselves through a variety of mediums. Form and perspective will be introduced through their work along with processes that will reflect different artists. Art Appreciation will provide an opportunity to identify styles and give rise to discussion inviting individual response and adaptation.

Music for the classroom will develop a sense of enjoyment and appreciation along with the development of skills in rhythm, tone, knowledge of instruments and reading and writing simple tunes. Singing in choirs, at special occasions or at Assembly provides another element to enjoy performing and participating. Classroom experiences will be extended by visits of groups such as Musical Viva and external visits.

Drama within the curriculum children will be given opportunities to perform through poetry recitals, public speaking, debating, school plays and assembly activities.
