Curriculum

The School is licensed to follow the Australian curriculum (New South Wales Board of Studies syllabus) which provides a broad based curriculum, which is flexible enough to suit a wide range of educational systems at infants and primary levels.

The School offers the New South Wales Board of Studies Curriculum (NSWBOS) as set out. These six principal subject areas of knowledge are:

Courses relating to Australia are included under Human Society and Its Environment. Both Art and Music courses are included in the key learning area of Creative and Practical Arts.

Each key learning area seeks to impart knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that are relevant and appropriate for pre-primary and primary students to experience a well-balanced education.

Children learn in different ways and Avondale seeks to enable the children to know how they learn, differentiating programmes to include Learning Styles, Multiple Intelligences, as offered by Howard Gardner, and Higher Order Thinking Skills, to extend and support their learning.
