Facilities

All classrooms are spacious, air-conditioned and furnished to create a comfortable and conducive environment for learning and interaction.

Our sporting and playground facilities include a large sports field, basketball court and an open-air stage. There are also large undercover areas for play in inclement weather.

The swimming pool located within the grounds of Avondale provides our students with additional opportunities to participate in water sports during their school activities. At approximately 12 metres long it is suitable for stroke correction and development work for older children.

The dedicated Drama and Performing Arts centre is complete with an outdoor stage for open air performances for public speaking, drama classes, school plays, individual and group musical recitals, pageants, choir, class and school concerts.

Dedicated dance studios provide our students with an optimal environment to explore their passion for dance.

At Avondale we have a dedicated music room with a piano and a large range of percussion instruments and space for the children to dance and explore rhythm and movement. Each class will visit the music room 2 times per week for their music lesson. Children also have the opportunity to play an instrument (i.e. guitar, piano, flute, saxophone, voice) with a specialist music teacher at a cost to families.

The dedicated space and materials of the Art Room provides a rich environment for exploring the world of art and craft. Exploring and creating with art materials helps children become more sensitive to the physical environment; promotes cognitive development and increases their social and emotional development. Young children who are encouraged to engage in expressive art activities also gain a sense of accomplishment and grow toward achieving independence and autonomy.

At Avondale we have a dedicated IT room with a specialist teacher. Each student has their own computer, so they can work independently during lessons. The computer lab has recently been upgraded with new screens, keyboards and the latest educational software packages. The lab is also used by children for after school programs in such areas as robotics and video editing.

Students are strongly encouraged to develop a love of reading and will visit the library several times each week, either in class, at recess or at lunchtimes. Both the Infant and Primary sections of the school have their own dedicated library stocked with an excellent range of books and reference material suitable for the age group using the library.

Children will follow recipes and integrate their learning across the Key Learning Areas by discussion, using procedure, measuring, mixing and combining substances, visual representation and nutrition. They will learn about kitchen safety and problem solving.

A qualified chef leads the team at the Avondale Healthy Canteen which provides our students a varied and healthy menu. Daily choices of both hot and cold meals as well as healthy snacks are available daily. Avondale supports the NSW Healthy Canteen initiative as a vital practical link in the PDHPE to model healthy eating habits.

The safety of Avondale students and staff is of utmost importance and our security protocol has been designed accordingly. Avondale employs 24-hour security guards to secure the entrance/exit and perimeter of the school campus. All parents and regular visitors to the school will be issued with a Photo Identity Card that must be worn at all times on the campus. All visitors to the campus must sign in at the front gate with the guards to receive their temporary visitor pass
