Philosophy & Program

Avondale Grammar School Preschool combines a number of well recognised educational philosophies and approaches, taking the best from each to provide the highest quality education for our students.

The early childhood years are a time where children develop and establish thinking habits, patterns of interaction, management of emotions and important ideas about themselves as learners and as human beings. Our program works to integrate all these areas with academic skills and knowledge within a meaningful and purposeful context.

Children engage in small and large group work as well as working in Learning Centres (construction centre, drama centre, writing and art centre, for example) and on class projects. Effective learning for young children is emergent. This means that as the students’ skills and interests evolve, the program is revised and moves with them. Literacy, Numeracy and Language learning are a key focus at Avondale and are integrated into both structured learning experiences and project-based work.

At Avondale Preschool we offer students the opportunity to develop necessary higher order thinking skills which will support them throughout their educational career and into adulthood. These skills, such as problem-solving, analysis and reflection, are vital components to children developing long-term learning strategies and are encouraged through problem-based learning and projects.
