Read what some of our parents think about Avondale Grammar School

We moved from Sydney in 2007 and enrolled our daughter as part of the initial intake at Avondale and our son started Preschool in 2008.

Perhaps the most significant two factors in our decision were the small class sizes and the quality of the teachers at Avondale.

Everyone knows the anxiety of moving children overseas, and our daughter was half way through that formative first year of school when we left Australia. We wanted to be sure that we did not heighten her anxiety by putting her into a vast, busy and impersonal schooling environment where she could slip beneath the radar.

Our first impressions of Avondale were of a nurturing environment where our children would be given close attention whilst being challenged to realise their potential. Avondale has a tremendous sense of community spirit that starts with the teachers and headmaster knowing all of the children in the school by name and genuinely wanting each child to achieve their very best.

Our children have made some wonderful friends, progressed well academically and developed a love for learning. The parents, staff and children of Avondale have all contributed to this tremendous schooling experience and we feel proud that we were have been part of the foundation of this great school.

The Primmer Family

We started at Avondale at the beginning of Term 1, 2009. We are Kiwis but came from Sydney, having been there for two and a half years. Our children Jim, 9 and Izzy, 7 needed a smooth transition, given that we had already moved once before.

We chose Avondale Grammar School, based firstly on the nature of our children, and secondly due to the smaller class sizes. We immediately liked the people that we met and got to meet the Head of School on our initial visit, unlike other schools we visited.

Our son, very much needed a calm, nurturing environment and our younger daughter needed encouragement, so that she could develop confidence. The school has delivered on both counts, and is continuing to do so.

The Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are a great tool, allowing teachers and parents to work together to support the childs strengths and develop them in areas of need. It is wonderful to experience a school where the teachers have the time and commitment to extend and support the children based on their needs.

The overriding factors that sealed our decision to send our children to Avondale was that the smaller class sizes would allow more attention, and our perception of the teachers we met.

Most importantly, our children are happy. We feel that Avondale Grammar School will help to develop fine citizens, and are excited to be a part of this school.
